Although it shares the same name, it is nothing like the akok. Akok berlauk is a savoury sponge cake with a middle filling of shredded beef fried with onions and shallots. Usually served on special occasions, it is unique to Terengganu. As with most East Coast cooking, Akok Berlauk combines sweetness with mildly spiced ingredients.
